Security Tips

Privacy
  • Do not respond to unsolicited requests for your Social Security number (SSN) or any of your financial data.
  • Avoid easy-to-figure-out passwords and personal ID (PIN) codes.
  • Do not give out personal information over the telephone or via the Internet unless you initiated the contact. We will never request that you provide confidential information such as a password or Social Security number or other sensitive information via telephone or e-mail.
  • Do not include personal information such as your Social Security number or driver’s license number on your pre-printed checks.
  • Memorize all Personal Identification Numbers (PINs), such as your ATM card PIN and online passwords. Do not write these numbers down or keep them in your wallet or purse, and do not share them with anyone.
Protect Your Accounts
  • Store new and cancelled checks in a secure place.
  • Verify all credit card and bank statements for accuracy.
Protect Your Mail
  • If you stop receiving bills, statements or other monthly mailings, contact the issuing company immediately.
  • Promptly collect all incoming mail. Use a locking mailbox, if possible.
  • Always put outgoing mail in a U.S. Postal Service mailbox, not your home mailbox.
  • Before discarding, shred or cut up credit cards, ATM receipts, pre-approved credit offers and credit card convenience checks you receive, but do not plan to use.
